Argentinian Lawyer Accused of Racism in Brazil Describes Her Imprisonment

Argentinian lawyer Agostina Páez, accused of racism in Brazil, published a video blog from her home arrest after the incident where she made gestures simulating a monkey in a bar in Ipanema.

“Day 44 in prison in Brazil”, was the video she posted on TikTok, filmed from her accommodation.

“The truth is, I feel very bad, this weekend for me has been crucial, I have had it very bad: I have spent the three days drugged because my anxiety levels were getting higher and higher”, the 29-year-old woman from Santiago told, detailing her emotional state and emphasizing that she felt very alone during the process.

In the audiovisual material, Páez documented her daily routine and the difficulties of facing the situation.

“It’s very difficult to have to be the only one who forces herself and says ‘come on, wake up from bed, Agostina’”, she added while showing how she managed to go down to the restaurant of the complex where she was staying, using an electronic ankle bracelet arranged by the Brazilian justice.

“On the days I had a little will to live, I made little vlogs so as not to get out of the habit 🥺”, she wrote.

“I’m going to go like this, obviously without the ankle bracelet showing, so they don’t recognize me”, she noted in the recording, where she also admitted to having neglected her diet due to depression.

“I put on glasses because I’m sensitive and I cry over everything. It wasn’t because of skin color”, she concluded.

In an interview with Noticias Argentinas, Páez also explained that she did not realize the scope of her actions and that her reaction occurred during a dispute over a wrongly charged bill.

“I saw them grabbing their genitals. One should not react the way I did, I regret that”, reflected the lawyer.
